An underutilised hard rock quarry located in the Redbank Plains catchment could soon be repurposed into a master planned residential community, if approved by local council.
The project would see 1,800 new homes added to the region, boosting the local economy and community while meeting the needs laid out in the Ipswich 2024 Plan and SEQ regional plan.
Atrio Property General Manager – Development, Jaryd Collins who is leading the HQ project said the redevelopment comes at a crucial time, aligning with the region’s growth and the rising demand for houses across SEQ.
“We anticipate that the Springfield- Ripley corridor won’t be able to supply significant new greenfield sites from around 2026, and with Ipswich’s population predicted to double by 2046, HQ’s proposed masterplan will provide a much-needed pipeline of 1800 homes to this area,” Mr Collins said.
“The project is all about transforming a 190-hectare underutilised property into a dynamic residential master-planned community where almost half of the site will become public open space. We’re looking to boost the local economy and community life, improve the environmental health of the area, and create open spaces for everyone to enjoy.
“HQ is not just about building a community but preserving and celebrating the site and creating spaces that pave the way for a future where housing is within everyone’s reach.
“A mix of home typologies is proposed to cater to various needs and demographics, and by focusing on the development of new homes, we will contribute to the social and economic fabric of the region.”
Mr Collins said the Hardrock Quarry team is in early discussions with community and government stakeholders to discuss the proposed concept and gather insights, which will inform the detail planning and development phases.
“Preliminary talks with local community members and other key stakeholders are now underway and are focused on ensuring the project serves the community well, meets housing and environment needs and satisfies statutory planning requirements,” he said.
“We invite members of the community to share their thoughts and ideas, helping to craft an outcome that truly delivers new opportunities for the area. Feedback is a building block in our development process, helping us refine and enhance our plans.
“We held our first community consultation event at Orion Springfield Shopping Centre and have already received some great and informing feedback from the locals.
“We’ll also be holding a second community consultation session at Redbank Town Square on Saturday 24 August, so I’d highly encourage anyone who is interested in the project to come along and have a chat with the team,” Mr Collins said.
Locals across Redbank Plains, Augustine Heights, Bellbird Park and Springfield have also received a detailed letter that encourages them to have their say on their project.
